Straight-Line Composite Wrap — 12" White Oil Pipeline

An 823mm internal corrosion defect was found on a buried 12" white oil pipeline at a major Cape Town oil refinery, requiring excavation and scaffolding for safe access. The line was sandblasted to SA2.5 and repaired with 4 layers of Revowrap 110, engineered to ISO TS 24817 — with no refinery shutdown. With the corrosion mechanism removed, the repair carries a 20-year guarantee and the line returned to normal operating specifications.

Where Every Other Valve Failed in 3 Weeks: Ours Ran 12 Months

In August 2023 NextNine was invited on site to assess conditions where every competitor knife gate was failing, most within three weeks. The culprit: back pressure exceeding 40 bar from the extreme length and gradient of the slurry pipeline, combined with highly aggressive, erosive slurry. We supplied DN250 and DN350 heavy-duty knife gate valves with SAF2205 duplex blades, oversized double-acting actuators and twin polyurethane deflector cones. The result: 12 months of continuous operation, the best performance the mine had ever experienced.

Leak Detection — Rand Water Bulk Supply Line

NextNine was commissioned to survey a 44km section of bulk water supply main for Rand Water. Combining satellite leak detection with an Ingu smart ball run through the inside of the live pipeline, the team identified 17 previously unknown leak points, including one major blowout risk that had gone undetected for over 18 months. Repairs were prioritised and completed within two weeks. At an approximate project cost of R1.613 million against R10.15 million in annual water losses stopped, the survey paid for itself in under two months.

Composite Wrap — 12" Crude Oil Pipeline, 9m Defect

Inspection of a buried 12" crude oil pipeline (white oil service, carbon steel) at a major Cape Town oil refinery revealed a 9000mm internal corrosion defect along a straight section — a significant loss-of-containment risk. After excavation and sandblasting to SA2.5, a Revowrap 110 carbon fibre laminate was applied as a spiral wrap over a 9255mm repair length, engineered to ASME PCC-2 — restoring full structural pressure containment with no refinery shutdown required.

Rapid Valve Supply — Magalies Water Network

A major Magalies Water network needed two DN900 butterfly valves for a critical intervention, but conventional supply channels quoted an 18-week procurement cycle. NextNine delivered both valves in just three weeks, enabling the intervention approximately 105 days earlier and safeguarding an estimated R267 million worth of bulk-water conveyance capacity. Strategic procurement and rapid execution protected critical infrastructure and preserved operational flexibility, delivering value far beyond the equipment supplied.

Live Tank Repair — 300m³ Platinum Concentrator, Rustenburg

A wall thickness scan on a critical 300m³ conical flocculant tank (8m diameter, 4.7m tall) revealed severe internal corrosion and a pinhole — failure would have shut the entire plant. The tank was split into six sections, sandblasted, and wrapped bottom-to-top with impact-resistant fibreglass composite, creating a new stiffened seam to carry the tank's self-weight. The entire repair was completed under live conditions with zero production stoppage, backed by yearly inspections across its design lifetime.
